He wakes up, and he's thirty and, for a minute, he doesn't remember where he is. It takes him a moment to put the pieces together -- they'd eaten together, watched a movie and he'd ended up staying over so that they could wake up in the same place on their birthday. Their birthday; if he wasn't already sure that this was something special, that might have had him convinced. He's in Rapunzel's bed, curled up around her, her nigthtgown silky against the bare skin of his forearms and he's -- shit -- he's definitely hard, and he tries to shift his hips backwards without waking her.

Once he's got a little bit of distance between his hips and her, her bends his head, brushing kisses against the side of her neck, one hand tracing the shape of her waist.

God, she always smells so good.

He gives their first date a lot of thought. He talks to people. He does research. Finally, he manages to settle on a little Italian place that's got great ratings and reviews, that's fancy without being overbearing. He wants to give Rapunzel a chance to dress up, if she wants to. He doesn't have a suit made by her, yet, but he goes shopping again and finds a dark suit and shirt combo that he thinks works.

He's inexplicably nervous as he climbs the stairs to her apartment and knocks. In his hands, there's a bouquet of flowers, carefully chosen -- he'd gone with wildflowers in pinks and purples, flashes of yellow. They'd seemed more fitting for her than something more formal.

God, he wants this to go well.

He wouldn't admit to being scared, but he's definitely a little bit shaken by his run in with Rapunzel's friend at the mall. Yeah, he'd screwed up when he kissed her, but he'd honestly thought that everything was okay between them, but then he'd had his...conversation with Sweeney and now, honestly? He's not so sure.

He turns it over and over in his head and then, finally, after dinner, he pulls out his phone to send her a message.

Did I do something? x

It's been a few days and Keys feel like he's at least sort of starting to settle in. His apartment is still pretty sparse, but he's bought a few things to make it feel cosier, more like his. He still misses his place in Seattle, misses how like him it had felt, but it's not like he can blame the apartment in Dimera for still feeling like it's someone else's, not when he's been in it for less than a week.

His wardrobe is also still feeling pretty basic. He'd bought a week's worth of plain t-shirts in black, white, navy, as well as a couple of pairs of jeans, a few sweaters, a hoodie, socks, boxers. His wardrobe in Seattle hadn't been anything to write home about, honestly, but there are a few things he'll miss. He found a decent pair of combat boots in an army surplus store, which helps with the weather.

He's met a few people so far but really the only person he can think of as a new friend is Rapunzel. She's been checking in regularly and he's thoroughly grateful every time his phone lights up with a text. They text a lot, not about anything in particular, and it's been pretty much the only thing that's stopped Keys from spiralling into just feeling desperately, completely alone.

When Rapunzel invited him over for dinner, Keys had a brief panic about what he should bring with him. His parents raised him to be polite, and he knows that it's good manners to not show up empty handed. So, when he shows up at her door, he's wearing the coat she helped him to buy, a hat pulled on over his hair, and he's got pie and he's got wine.

He's doing his best, anyway.
