He can't imagine isolation like that, especially not for someone like Rapunzel, who's some warm, so vibrant, who so clearly comes alive in company. He can't imagine how lonely she must have been.

"I don't remember it ever being quiet when I was a kid," he says. "I might have been happy to trade with you." He takes another sip of his wine. "Or, at least, come and keep you company or something."
